Evaluation Q4

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

In the process of making our music video, digipack and the advert we used a number of different media technologies, both for research and planning and then for actually making and editing the video.

Blogger

Throughout the development of our music video we used blogger to post updates and keep on top of individual tasks which had to be completed. Blogger helped us extend our ideas and use our imagination as we were able to see where things needed improvement and what needed to be worked on. We had no problem using blogger as we have already used it before for our AS coursework which we completed last year. Blogger also helped us with our audience feedback when evaluating the video as people were able to post comments and their opinions.

Scanner/Printer

We used the HP scanner during our research and planning stage of our music video. We scanned in our shooting schedule and our story board which helped us keep organised and up to date when we filmed our footage.  Also once completing our hand painted animated image for our digipak we scanned it in and then edited it on Photoshop

Digital Camera/Video

All filming was recorded from the video camera provided to us from our school. We gained a lot of experience when recording the video, we were able to experiment and try out different shots and levels which we used and developed in the video. This was the most important piece of technology which we used, without the video camera we would have no footage for our video.

While filming the video we also used a camera to take pictures of behind the scenes and of memorable scenes. The pictures have then be used for the digipack and advert.

Final cut pro

We used Final Cut Pro to edit our video. At first we found it difficult to grasp how to use it, but after some experimenting we became confident when using it. Final Cut Pro allowed us to use particular effects and colours for our video.

Photoshop

We used Photoshop as a way of editing pictures for our advert and digipack. Photoshop helped us enhance any blurry pictures, we also used it to crop pictures which we wanted to fit into our digipack. We both found Photoshop very complicated to use, however we learnt over time and became more familiar with it the more we used it.

InDesign

We used InDesign a lot when creating our ancillary products. Personally we found Indesign a lot easier to use than Photoshop and therefore we found creating the actual panels for our digipack a lot easier and quicker.

YouTube

YouTube helped us look at other music videos from the punk/rock genre. By looking at other music videos we were able to see the codes and conventions used in this genre of music, which we would include for our own music video. Once our video was completed we posted it up on YouTube to be viewed by the public.

Overall, all technology used during the making of our music video were very important and contributed a lot to the final piece. However the two most important overall were the video camera and Final Cut Pro. Without these two media means the actual video wouldn't of been able to be created.
